Evergreen Land Cruiser Prado gets new engine and upgraded infotainment

Recently we reported that the Land Cruiser Prado had received a mild update along with a new Hilux sourced diesel engine and an upgraded infotainment for the UK market. The latter two have also made their way to Mzansi.

    Upgraded engine

The new engine gets an additional 30kW of power and 100Nm of torque derived from a new-generation 2.8-litre GD-6 turbo diesel engine that is now exclusively paired with a six-speed automatic transmission (previously five-speed). The total power and torque outputs now stand at an impressive 150 kW and 500 Nm.

The other benefits of the new engine include improved engine rigidity and cooling, fuel economy (at a claimed 7,0l/100km) and refinement. Maximum braked towing capacity is increased to 3,000kg on 2.8 models.

    Improved infotainment

A new infotainment system is fitted across the range and now incorporates a larger 9-inch touchscreen display (previous 8-inch), enhanced voice recognition and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    Pricing

The Land Cruiser Prado range is priced as follows:

    Prado 2.8L Diesel TX             – R 939,900

    Prado 4.0L Petrol VX              – R 1,029,000

    Prado 2.8L Diesel VX             – R 1,060,600

    Prado 4.0L Petrol VX-L          – R 1,072,600

    Prado 2.8L Diesel VX-L          – R 1,105,800

All Prado models are sold with a 9-services/90,000 km service plan (come on Toyota SA, why not a full maintenance plan?). A 3-year/100,000 km warranty is also provided.
