Volkswagen has pulled the covers off the brand-new, second-generation T-Roc, and the popular compact SUV has undergone a massive transformation. With bolder styling, a premium interior, cutting-edge driver-assist tech and electrified powertrains, the new T-Roc is ready to reclaim its place as one of Europe’s best-selling crossovers.
Brief history
Since its debut in 2017, the Volkswagen T-Roc has been a sales success story, with over two million units sold worldwide. The second-generation model is built in Portugal and is aimed squarely at European customers. With its bold new look, high-tech interior and electrified engines, the new T-Roc is shaping up to be one of the most compelling compact SUVs on the market.

Exterior
From the outside, the new Volkswagen T-Roc looks more assertive and refined. It’s 12 cm longer than its predecessor, which not only gives it a stronger stance but also allows for more interior space. The familiar coupé-like rear remains, but now it’s complemented by a sleek light signature. Standard LED headlights lead the way, while optional IQ.Light matrix LEDs stretch across the front with an illuminated VW badge. At the back, a striking LED light bar and an illuminated red logo round off the fresh design. Buyers can choose from six colours, including eye-catching Canary Yellow, Flamed Red and Celestial Blue, with the option of a contrasting black roof.

Interior and technology
Step inside and you’re welcomed by a lounge-like cabin that’s a clear step up in quality. Volkswagen has upgraded materials with soft-touch surfaces and a fabric-wrapped dashboard, while ambient lighting sets the mood. A massive 33 cm infotainment display dominates the centre console, packed with the brand’s latest software and smart connectivity.
The T-Roc now offers features usually reserved for bigger VW SUVs, such as a windscreen head-up display, Travel Assist with automatic lane change, and even Park Assist Pro, which lets you park the car remotely using your smartphone. Families will appreciate the added space, supportive 14-way ergoActive seats with massage function, and a bigger boot that now swallows up to 475 litres.

Platform and powertrains
Built on Volkswagen’s latest MQB evo platform, the T-Roc benefits from advanced hardware and software developments. The SUV launches with two mild-hybrid petrol engines (1.5 eTSI) producing 116 PS (85 kW) and 150 PS (110 kW), paired with a 7-speed DSG. Later, two brand-new full hybrid models will join the range, while performance lovers can look forward to the return of the T-Roc R.
Availability
Volkswagen will kick off pre-sales in Germany on 27 August 2025, with the official market launch in November. The model will be offered in clearly defined trims – T-Roc, Life, Style and R-Line. Volkswagen SA is yet to announce local availability.
