Volkswagen has pulled the wraps off the all-new ID.CROSS Concept at the 2025 IAA Mobility show, introducing a compact electric SUV that blends urban practicality with emotional design and advanced technology. Finished in an eye-catching Urban Jungle green, the ID.CROSS Concept represents the next chapter in Volkswagen’s EV journey and previews a future production model.

A New “Pure Positive” design language
According to Volkswagen’s Head of Design, Andreas Mindt, the ID.CROSS Concept is the first to showcase the brand’s new design philosophy, which they call Pure Positive. This approach is based on three principles – stability, likeability, and secret sauce – and aims to give every future Volkswagen a more approachable and distinctive character.
The ID.CROSS Concept wears clean, muscular lines and surfaces that project clarity and strength. At the front and rear, 3D light graphics form a playful “smiling” signature, adding personality. Mindt also hints at nostalgic Volkswagen touches, drawing inspiration from icons like the Golf and the legendary VW Bus, especially in the straight window line and charismatic C-pillars.
Compact size, big attitude
Measuring 4,161 mm long, 1,839 mm wide, and 1,588 mm tall, with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, the ID.CROSS slots neatly into the same footprint as today’s T-Cross, making it ideal for tight city streets and small parking spaces.
To complement its expressive design, Volkswagen’s designers developed a unique set of 21-inch Balboa alloy wheels paired with custom Goodyear 235/40 R21 tyres, which extend the rim’s styling into the tyre walls – a detail crafted specifically for the concept.

Spacious and versatile interior
Thanks to the clever use of Volkswagen’s MEB architecture, the ID.CROSS Concept maximizes interior room. Despite its compact size, it offers a generous 450-litre boot plus an extra 25 litres under the bonnet. Inside, passengers enjoy a lounge-like atmosphere, highlighted by fabric-trimmed panels, soft Vanilla Chai tones, and a “floating” centre console that even houses real plants.
The seats can fully fold flat, transforming into a reclining bed reminiscent of a VW Bus – perfect for road trips or quick breaks. Ambient Atmospheres modes adjust lighting, sound, and climate to create a calming environment with a touch of nature.
Digital, intuitive cockpit
Volkswagen has equipped the ID.CROSS Concept with a fresh take on cockpit design. Drivers face an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, paired with a 13-inch central infotainment display, both positioned on a shared visual axis for easy readability.
Controls are simplified through clear multifunction buttons, a redesigned steering wheel, and natural voice commands, reducing distraction while keeping everything within reach.
MEB+ – next-gen EV platform
Underneath, the ID.CROSS Concept is built on the latest MEB+ platform, Volkswagen’s evolutionary step of its modular EV toolkit. The improvements include smarter software, enhanced batteries, and upgraded driver-assist systems like the more advanced Travel Assist, usually reserved for higher vehicle classes.
Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen’s development chief, says MEB+ will make future EVs more competitive by delivering better range, features, and value across the lineup – including the upcoming ID.Polo.
Efficient new drive system
Powering the ID.CROSS Concept is a 155 kW (211 PS) electric motor integrated into the front axle, paired with a flat high-voltage battery in the floor. Volkswagen estimates a WLTP range of up to 420 km, making it more than capable for daily use and weekend escapes.
The ID.CROSS also brings practical touches: a 75 kg draw-bar load, ideal for transporting two e-bikes, and a towing capacity of up to 1,200 kg, opening the door for lifestyle camper vans and trailers.
