Mitsubishi Motors South Africa is preparing to introduce the all-new Destinator in the first half of 2026, adding a new three-row SUV to its local line-up.
Unveiled globally in 2025, the Destinator has been developed with emerging markets in mind, including Africa. Production takes place in Indonesia, alongside models such as the Outlander Sport and Xpander. Locally, it is expected to slot into the compact SUV space, targeting families who want seven seats without moving into full-size SUV territory.
Design and space
The Destinator blends SUV styling with MPV-like practicality. It offers seating for seven across three rows, with flexible configurations. The second row folds in a 40:20:40 split, while the third row folds 50:50, allowing owners to prioritise either passengers or cargo depending on the trip. Mitsubishi claims there are 25 storage spaces spread throughout the cabin.

Inside, the focus appears to be on modern features and comfort. Highlights include a panoramic sunroof, 65-colour ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen paired with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, and a Yamaha audio system.
Powertrain and driving
Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 120kW and 250Nm. The engine drives the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission. Five selectable driving modes allow drivers to tailor the balance between performance and efficiency.
Mitsubishi has also incorporated technologies such as Active Yaw Control to enhance stability and control across varying road surfaces. While the Destinator is not positioned as a hardcore off-roader, it is intended to offer confident performance for everyday driving and occasional rougher conditions.

Safety and recognition
The Destinator is equipped with a suite of active and passive safety systems, including advanced driver assistance features and six airbags. It achieved a five-star rating in the 2025 ASEAN NCAP safety assessment programme.
Since its global reveal, the model has also received several design and industry awards, including recognition in Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia.
What to expect locally
Final South African specifications, pricing and model details will be confirmed closer to the March 2026 launch date. Mitsubishi has indicated that an early pre-launch campaign will offer limited introductory benefits to initial buyers.
