After GM decided to leave the country recently, it is a relief to see an addition to the Opel line up in the form of the Opel Grandland X. The Grandland X is not here to just add numbers but if space, comfort and of course, style is what are looking for, then this brand new SUV from Opel may be the answer. The streamlined body is what gives this car its character. It is a combination of sportiness with a robust feel.

The Grandland X is the newest member of the Opel X family after the Crossland X and Mokka X which launched last year. The modern and sleek Grandland X caters for the adventurous kind, be it a family or a lone ranger. This 5- seater Grandland comes standard with plenty of space, light and the latest technology on board. The main features of this latest SUV from Opel include, advanced park assist, a 360 degree camera, heated seating in the rear and front, heated steering wheel and the boot that opens with just foot movement. The latter will come in handy for pyjama momas as they tackle shopping malls with their hands full of groceries.

The Grandland X is furnished with Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) LED headlamps. Cornering light and high beam assist are some of the functions in the lighting. These guarantee optimal illumination on dark roads.

The interior of the Grandland X has a soft natural feel on the dashboard accompanied by glossy finishes giving it a true premium feel. With this SUV, Opel has catered for all round visibility, functionality with style and even reduced the number of switches in the vehicle. A simplified layout is separated into 3 zones for easy control. The Grandland X also hosts a modern infotainment system that is compatible with smart phones.

The Grandland X is available in a 1.6 turbo petrol engine producing 121kW and 240Nm. A 6-speed automatic gearbox will do duty in the range. The Grandland X will be available in three trim levels, Essentia, Enjoy and Cosmo. Opel will be introducing a 2 litre diesel motor next year.

    Pricing

    Opel Grandland X 1.6T Essentia A/T: R429,000
    Opel Grandland X 1.6T Enjoy A/T: R465,000
    Opel Grandland X 1.6T Cosmo A/T: R565,000
