Toyota South Africa is set to launch its new Corolla hatch that replaces the Auris.

While we’re yet to drive the C-segment contestant soon, the new Corolla is set to launch in three tastes, XS, XS CVT and XR CVT.

In terms of looks, it will feature an eye-catching angular head – and tail lamp treatment, a wide stance and modern, high-quality interior, daytime running lights, smart entry, sports seats, dual-zone climate control and vehicle stability control.

Built on Toyota’s TNGA platform which promises an engaging drive along with ride comfort, a 1.2 litre four-pot engine does job here. It is the same power unit found in the C-HR and churns out 85 kW of power and 185 Nm of torque.

All variants are claimed to use 6.1l/100km which we have no doubt it will be suitable for everyday driving.

Toyota says the base XS with manual transmission will do the job from 0-100km/h in 9.5 seconds en route to a top speed of 200 km/h. However the two latter variants will sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 10.4 seconds before maxing out at 190 km/h.

Pricing for the XS model is R336 800, R347 400 for the XS CVT and the top of the range will set you back at R367 100.
