Toyota confirms Corolla Hatch GR Sport, for now

Ahead of its official debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Toyota has taken the wraps off its Corolla GR Sport hatchback.

Although there aren’t any mechanical changes to it, the GR Sport hatch features a revised grille, new side skirts and tweaked 18-inch alloy wheels.

There is also a host of standard features such as LED headlights, tinted rear windows and front fog lamps.

The steering wheel, instrument panel and gear knob boast black and red stitching while cloth seats come are offered by default – if you like, there are leather seats available at an extra cost.

As much as nothing has changed underneath the bonnet, our local spec model lurks a 1.2 litre engine borrowed from the CH-R paired either with a CVT or the do it yourself transmission.

Rumours suggest that a proper GRMN Corolla hatch is likely to happen with either a 1.8 litre or 2.0-litre petrol engine, both using hybrid technology.

For the record, the Gazoo Racing (GR) brand is set to be rolled out to local Toyota dealerships as a proper performance offering.

    There are four different levels:

    GR-Line: cosmetic package

    GR-Sport: suspension package

    GR: power package

    GRMN: high-power package
