While this week saw the launch of Jaguar’s all-electric SUV, the I-Pace, Porsche also wants to join the electric realm with its all-electric Macan SUV.
The fully-electric Macan will be Porsche’s first all-electric and is due to roll off the assembly line at the start of the next decade.
It will feature an 800-volt technology and is based on the Porsche PPE architecture (Premium Platform Electric) which is developed in collaboration with Audi AG.
It joins the Stuttgart-based carmaker’s pure electric Taycan sports car which will be launched at the end of 2019, followed shortly thereafter by its derivative, the Taycan Cross Turismo.
According to Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG, Porsche will be investing more than six billion euros in electric mobility by 2022.
By 2025, 50 per cent of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system. Porsche says it also aims to focus on optimised petrol engines, plug-in hybrids and all-electric sports cars.
The electric Macan will be built at Porsche’s plant in Leipzig.
