Lambo reveals Huracán Evo Spyder to fight McLaren 570S

Lamborghini is set to debut its Huracán Evo Spyder at this year’s Geneva Motor Show aimed directly at McLaren’s 570S.

Although nothing much has changed mechanically, the Spyder weighs 1.542kg which is more than the coupe that weighs 1.422kg.

Power comes from a 5.2 litre V10 that churns out a fierce 470 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque.  All that power is accessed via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to both axles, including a locking rear differential.

Despite the added weight, the Spyder is able to get from 0-100km/h in a mere 3.1 seconds (2.9 seconds for the coupe) en route to 325km/h maximum velocity.

The power roof opens in 17 seconds and operates at speeds up to 50km/h. When the top is down, two body-colour fins rise to sit behind the seatbacks, and a duct between them reduces cabin turbulence with the roof out of the way. An electronically operating rear window can also lower to bring more air into the cabin.

According to the Italian carmaker, the convertible Evo has five times the down force of the existing Huracán Spyder.

The Huracán Evo Spyder goes on sale in spring 2019.
