Scoop of what will power the BMW M3 and M4

Details of what will be powering the next BMW M3 and M4 Coupe have emerged, thanks to Autocar.

Both cars will make use of the same tweaked S58 engine that also powers the recently revealed X3 M and X4 M SUVs.

Power from the 3.0-litre straight six is expected to crossover the 375 kW and 600 Nm mark – same output power churned by the much-anticipated X3 M and X4 M.  Reports state that the engine would also find its way into the M4 Gran Coupe while a detuned version will likely be used in the next M2.

The M3 will feature both rear-wheel-drive and xDrive systems either with a stick shift or automatic transmission.

The new cars are scheduled to be revealed in 2020.
