The German based manufacturer has removed the covers off their new GLB. This will slot in between the GLA and the GLC. The compact SUV will be available in either five or seven seats option, which would be a first for Mercedes in this segment. The third row, which is optional, will accommodate two passengers.
The initial pictures that surfaced on the net a couple of months ago depicted the GLB to be boxier, but it has adopted a somewhat more rounded shape.
The GLB will also have an optional off-roading package will be offered on GLBs that have Merc’s (all-wheel drive) 4Matic.
Here’s the all new @MercedesBenz_SA GLB. It’s close in looks to the GLK that hasn’t been sold in Mzansi. It will seat up to 7 passengers and feature an off-road package for models with Merc’s all-wheel 4Matic drive. We like the boxy styling. pic.twitter.com/oht30IryDf

The petrol fired GLBs will be powered by a 1.3 litre turbocharged engine and a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine. This will be under the bonnet of the GLB 200 and GLB 250. On the diesel front, diesel GLB 200d/200d 4Matic and the GLB 220d/220d 4Matic will be powered a 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine. You can expect an output of 110kW for the 200d and 140kW for the 220d 4Matic.
Just as all the latest Mercedes Benz offerings, the new GLB will also be fitted with the Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX aka “Hey Mercedes”) operated infotainment system with dual screens.
The new GLB will make its debut in the US by the end of the year. Local availability and pricing remain a mystery.
