The Mercedes-Benz SUV offering is expanding with the addition of a new GLB. The premium compact SUV will slot between the GLA and GLC in the Mercedes-Benz line-up.

    A performance focused SUV

If you are still scratching your head about the role of the new GLB in the Mercedes-Benz family, the Stuttgart based company has wasted no time showing off a performance focused GLB35 that will be more responsive and emotive thanks to a twinscroll turbocharger. The, 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine makes 225kW of power and 400Nn of torque. This power will be directed to all four wheels through the AMG 4Matic SpeedShift 8G eight-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission). The power will ensure that the 0-100kmn sprint is done in 5.2 seconds. The GLB35 does away with the Eco drive mode for AMG drive dynamics that include Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and individual. Notwithstanding the on-road performance credentials, off-roading is still possible through the Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

    New suspension and brakes

Affalterbach-based performance division has also reworked the suspension of the GLB35 by tuning it for high cornering speeds with a “low tendency to body roll”. Also, at the same time it will add a balanced level for “long-distance comfort”. The speed-sensitive power steering and AMG high-performance brakes assist in improved handling and stopping the GLB35 quicker.

    Exterior

The GLB35 gets the full AMG cosmetical treatment that includes AMG Panamericana grille, AMG cues and standard 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-allow wheels painted in Tantalum Grey. Bigger 20- and 21-inch wheel are available as an option.

    Interior

Inside you will find the latest Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX aka “Hey Mercedes”) operated infotainment system with dual screens. Other cabin differences of GLB35 from the GLB250 will be the seats, door panels and dash that have AMG leather and stitching.

The GLB35 is also available with optional seven seats and this will be the first compact SUV from Mercedes Benz with this option. Local arrival and pricing is yet to be confirmed.
