MPVs are not highly favoured by South African families but one large and luxurious German MPV seems to be doing well. It looks like Toyota wants in on the action with its newly introduced premium Quantum VX.

    Exterior

Up front, there is a large chrome-finished radiator grille with three horizontal slats which flow from the LED lights. A thin chrome strip links the opposing LED fog lamps in the lower front apron. To underscore the statement of luxury, customers also get chrome exterior door handles and mirrors. Furthermore, the mirrors feature power adjustment, auto-retracting and blind spot monitoring functions. At the back, the Japanese MPV spots a prominent chrome garnish, VX-badging and LED light elements.

The range topping Quantum comes with VX17” alloy wheels.

    Interior

Inside, the Quantum VX is not short of luxurious features with large captain’s chairs, independent rear climate control and multiple USB ports, all coming as standard. Other comfort features include as 4.2” multi-information display, rain-sensing wipers, LED room lamps, power-adjustable driver’s seat, high-definition Optitron instrumentation, auto-door lock, steering switches, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, power windows and rear sunshade. That’s not all, the driver and passengers get to enjoy front and rear climate control, smart entry and start, dual power-operated sliding doors and Toyota’s Audio Visual Navigation (AVN) touchscreen infotainment system.

The rear cabin offers four individual reclining Captain’s chairs (with armrests and fold out “ottoman” leg-rests) in the second and third row. This is complemented by a three-seat 60/40-split bench in the rear.

The luxurious interior comes with quilted leather upholstery and power-adjustment for the backrest and fold out “ottoman” leg-rest. Wooden trim and soft blue lighting add to the premium environment of the Quantum VX.

    Safety

The Quantum VX offers Toyota Safety Sense such as pre-collision safety system (PCS) with pedestrian detection (day and night) and cyclist detection (day only); high-speed active cruise control; lane departure alert; road sign assist; and automatic high beam.

    Engine and Transmission

The Quantum VX draws its power from the familiar Toyota four-cylinder 2.8 GD-6 turbodiesel engine, with 115kW of power and 420 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission which sends the power to the rear wheels.

    Pricing

The Quantum 2.8 LWB VX 9-seater is priced from R843,600. The price includes a 9-services/90,000 km service plan and a 3-year/100,000 km warranty.
