Updated GLC and GLC Coupé launched

The move from sedans has meant that manufacturers have had to field cars that mirror all the sedans they offer or once offered. The GLC is accordingly meant to be the car of choice for those looking for an SUV with C-Class dimensions. Although late to the party, coming to the market after the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 were already established, the GLC has made its mark. Four years in, it is already Mercedes-Benz’s most popular SUV. To keep the momentum going, Mercedes has updated the GLC and GLC Coupé for 2019.

    Exterior

The updated GLC features redesigned headlamps and radiator grille. LED High Performance headlamps are offered as standard. MULTIBEAM LED headlamps are available as optional equipment. Redesigned all-LED rear lights are also included as standard.

    Interior

As standard, both versions of the GLC feature the modern, learn-capable infotainment system MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience. Its strengths include intuitive control using a variety of inputs such as touch control, gesture control (with the help of the MBUX Interior Assistant) and the optimised voice control system (“Hey Mercedes”) as standard. The MBUX augmented reality function for navigation adds useful navigation information to a video image of the surroundings.

    Safety

Passive and active safety features include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steer Assist, Active Brake Assist and Trailer Manoeuvring Assist which provides assistance when manoeuvring in reverse.

    Engines

The GLC and GLC Coupé are powered by the new generation of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. In the GLC 300 4MATIC, the previous M 274 engine is replaced by the four-cylinder M 264, while the four-cylinder OM 654 diesel engine replaces the preceding OM 651. A 4-cylinder in-line 1991cc engine powers the GLC 300 and kicks out 190 kW/370 Nm. The two diesels employ a 4 cylinder in-line 1950cc which makes 143kW/400Nm in the GLC220 d and 180kW/500Nm in the 300 d. The combined fuel consumption in the GLC 300 is 7.4-7.1l/100km. The GLC 220 d consumes an attractive combined 5.5-5.2l/100km whereas the GLC 300 d also manages a respectable combined 5.9l-5.7l/100km.
