Mahindra has hit quite a bit of a sweet spot in the local bakkie scene. Dominated by a few players, Mahindra has championed the “affordable and reliable” third way. The response from bakkie buyers has been decent. Mahindra is not resting on its laurels though, and has introduced a refreshed Pik Up Single Cab S6 flagship which will slot in above the workhorse S4, and be offered in 4×2 or 4×4.

    Looks

The S6 takes on the looks of the S11 Automatic Double Cab and features a large, seven-slot chromed grille with a prominent Mahindra badge. This is complemented by new headlamps and a reworked front bumper, with integrated fog lamps and chrome detailing.

The bakkie also features a redesigned the styling bar which is bolted onto the rear load bay and is standard on both the 4×2 and 4×4 models.

Moving inside, electric rear view mirror adjustment, one-touch lane change indicators and cruise control are offered as standard. The seats and key fob have also been upgraded. The former come with arm rests and the latter gets a new flip key with an integrated remote. The features add to an already generous standard offering which includes rain-sensitive wipers, automatic self-levelling headlamps and a fuel-saving start-stop system.

All S6 models also include Mahindra’s integrated audio system with auxiliary port, USB and Bluetooth connectivity. This model further has dual front airbags, central locking, a 12V charging port, ABS brakes with emergency brake force distribution and air conditioning as standard.

    Engine

As before, the S6 is equipped with the 2.2 litre mHawk turbodiesel engine which makes 103 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is a claimed 7.7 litres / 100 km for the 4×2 model and 7.9 litres / 100 km in the 4×4 configuration.

    Pricing

Pricing for the S6 Single Cab bakkie is as follows:

Mahindra Pik Up S6 Single Cab 4×2:       R266,499

Mahindra Pik Up S6 Single Cab 4×4:       R311,499

All Mahindra Pik Up S6 models are sold with a comprehensive 4-year / 120,000 km mechanical warranty and roadside assistance plan and 5-year / 90,000 km service plan.
