Hyundai i20N is here to fight the Polo GTI and Fiesta ST

Hyundai caused quite a stir when it launched the I30N to fight more established players like the Golf GTI. The i30N appeared to be onto something special for the Korean brand as it quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with. Healthy European sales confirmed this. With this in mind, it was only a matter of time before we saw an i20N that is ready to fight the likes of Polo GTI and Ford Fiesta ST.

    Looks

Inspired by the i20 Coupe WRC rally car, the front is dominated by a front bumper with a larger air intakes and a wide radiator grille with an N logo, and a unique pattern inspired by a chequered flag. Below the grille, a lip spoiler featuring Tomato Red accents that extend to the new side skirt and the rear further drives the sportiness message home. The side profile bears unique side sills.

At the rear, performance orientated WRC-inspired roof spoiler features prominently. This is complemented by a rear bumper with built-in diffuser-like elements, triangular rear fog light, and a big single exhaust.

Other design highlights include front LED headlamps, darkened tail lamps with a black diamond resemblance, 18‑inch alloy wheels with a grey matte finish, and N-branded brake callipers.

The all-new i20 N comes in six exterior colours, namely Performance Blue, Intense Blue, Polar White, Sleek Silver, Brass and Phantom Black. All colour options (except for Phantom Black) can be specified with the optional Phantom Black roof for a two-tone style.

    Inside

The interior offers N-specific advanced and high-tech premium features. This includes dedicated sport seats with an integrated headrest, N steering wheel, N gear knob and sporty N metal pedals. The black interior features Performance Blue accents throughout and all‑black head lining.

The car has a digital instrument cluster and a new 10.25-inch infotainment screen with dedicated N content, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Offered with the latest version of Bluelink, Hyundai’s connected car services, it comes with services Hyundai LIVE Services, Connected Routing and Last Mile Navigation, as well as remote features via the Bluelink smartphone app.

    Engine and power

The all-new i20 N is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged GDi engine with a six-speed manual transmission (6MT). This mill delivers a maximum power output of 150 kW and a maximum torque of 275 Nm. The all-new i20 N can go from 0‑100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 230 km/h.

The N Grin Control System offers customers a high level of customisation, with five distinct drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, N and N Custom. The i20N is also offered with launch control.

    Safety

The Hyudai i20N not only prioritises performance but also does the same for safety. The car comes with a number of passive and active safety features such as Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist-City / Interurban / Pedestrian / Cyclist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Driver Attention Warning System incl. Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, High Beam Assist, Lane Following Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning and Rear view monitor with parking guidance.

Local availability is yet to be confirmed.
