The SUV space is super busy and some decent options simply get over looked because of the busyness in the SUV space and possibly the badge that they wear. We spent time with the new Renault Koleos Dynamique 2.5 CVT 4X4 recently and we think it may fall into that category.

    Looks and interior

The Renault Koleos shares its platform with the Nissan X-Trail but appears to stand out more with its striking exterior design punctuated by its full LED lighting signature. This range topping model starts at R529, 900 and gets you 4×4 i-technology, leather seats, a premium Arkamys 3D Sound System and a capacitive 8.7-inch touch screen in portrait form with navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The interior looks roomy, modern and solid. Safety tech and driver conveniences include hill assist, blind spot warning, keyless entry and start, automatic locking when you leave the car and auto-headlights as you approach the car. You also get accident protection and prevention technologies.

    Power and comfort

Powering the Koleos is a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine developing 126kW and233Nm. It is paired with a ‘seven-step’ CVT transmission. The few days that we spent in it was nothing but comfortable in every way. Our key highlights are the impressively comfortable seats, ride quality and refinement. Space is in abundance for all passengers and the boot remains big with its automated tailgate.

    Final word

There is lots to draw in a potential buyer. The CVT transmission and urban consumption which refused to go below 8,5L/100km despite keeping things on eco-mode may dampen things somewhat. Is it perfect? At this price point it is close enough.
