After taking the world by storm from launch in 2006, Nissan has finally taken the covers off the third generation Nissan Qashqai and by the looks of it, it appears as if the wait has been worth it.
Looks
Credited as having created the crossover segment, the latest iteration of the Nissan Qashqai spots a completely new look which follows the latest Nissan design language that has already been seen in the new X-Trail. The new look is characterised by the V-Motion grille, “floating roof” and distinctive slimmer, and sharper matrix LED lights. Additionally, prominent shoulder lines, an extended wheelbase and imposing 20-inch alloy wheels complete the look. At the back, the design of the rear lights creates a 3-D effect when lit for a unique road-going signature.
The all-new Qashqai will be available in 11 body colours, with five two-tone combinations. This allows customers to choose from a total of 16 colour variations.
Interior
Inside, new premium materials, smart features and fine detailing are the focus of the new interior. Taking a prominent role is a central 9” TFT screen which houses Nissan’s upgraded infotainment system, while an additional 12” TFT configurable screen sits in front of the driver, replacing the traditional dials. To complement the high definition TFT screen, the driver will also benefit from a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), the largest in the segment, offering speed, navigation directions and road information directly in the driver’s line-of-sight.
Additional convenience comes in the form of a 15w wireless charging (unit which is among the most powerful in the segment), Apple CarPlay, and 4 USB charging ports, with 2 USB-A and 2 USB-C ports.
Safety
The all-new Qashqai is equipped with an array of passive and active safety features, and tech that offer driver support in a wider set of circumstances. ProPILOT with Navi-link, which is newly offered on the new Nissan Qashqai, helps to reduce fatigue and stress while driving by assisting with acceleration and braking within a single lane on a highway. The system features the same intuitive controls as ProPILOT, and uses navigation data to smoothly assist with driving, especially with sharp cornering and off-ramp exiting.
Powertrains
The new Qashqai features a 12-volt mild hybrid system comprising a 1.3-liter turbo engine and lithium-ion battery. The system enables energy regenerated during deceleration to be used while driving to contribute to both fuel economy and CO2 emissions reduction.
The driving experience also benefits from a power steering that has also been enhanced to offer improved response and initial steering range from driver input.
Local Availability
Nissan South Africa has confirmed that the all-new Qashqai will make its debut in South and Sub-Saharan Africa later in the 2021 Financial.
