    Volkswagen celebrates iconic Golf R with 20 Years special edition

    Hot on the heels of the recently unveiled VW Touareg Edition 20, Volkswagen’s high-performance Golf R is also celebrating 20 years of with a special-edition bearing model-specific styling and more power.

    Exterior and interior

    Outside, the black radiator grille of the special-edition Golf R prominently features the blue R-logo – the symbol that has stood for especially powerful cars with an exclusive design for 20 years. The blue R-logo can also be found on both wings and at the rear. Blue design accents, a “20” anniversary logo on the B-pillar and a “20 R” logo projection from the exterior mirrors adorn the special-edition model. It’s fitted with 19-inch (235/35 R 19) “Estoril” wheels finished with a striking black, blue surface. Customers can opt for similarly sized semislick sport tyres.

    In the vehicle interior, the performance factor is underlined by the decorative trim elements in Genuine Carbon, which are used for the first time in this model.

    Performance

    Powering the Golf R 20 Years is a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. Volkswagenincreased the power of the Golf R 20 Years edition from 235kW to 245 kW. Torque remains unchanged at 420Nm and 0-100km/h now takes 4.6 seconds. As standard, the special-edition model is fitted with the R-Performance package which adds a rear roof spoiler, R-Performance Torque Vectoring and additional driving modes – Special and Drift settings.

    For a more aggressive start-up sound, the special-edition Golf R is fitted with Emotion Start option which is said to increase the revs to 2,500 rpm.
