Toyota’s recently unveiled GR Corolla’s performance has been bolstered thorough numerous bits and bobs and weight-saving techniques to create the ultimate drivers car. These include, increased engine torque, optimized transmission gear ratios, monotube shock absorbers, high-performance tyres which are said to improve cornering execution and weight reduction.
So what’s different?
Setting itself apart from the GR Corolla RZ, the Morizo Edition’s exterior color is an exclusive Matte Steel, and the front windshield bears Morizo’s signature as a testament to the unique and discerning approach to creating the GR Corolla Morizo Edition. For increased grip the Morizio Edition is fitted with size 245/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (widened by 10 mm) which wrap the stunning GR-branded BBS forged aluminum wheels.
Climbing aboard the GR Corolla Morizo Edition there are only two exclusive semi-bucket seats for the driver and passenger. As a result Toyota GR managed to shave off weight by approximately 30 kilograms. Adding a sporty touch to the stripped-out interior is door trim ornamentation, the instrument panel, and others finished in cast-black paint coalesce with an Ultrasuede upholstered steering wheel and center console.

Performance
Like the GR Corolla RZ, the Morizo Edition is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre in-line three-cylinder engine making 224kW. Torque however has been increased from 370Nm to 400Nm. It’s still paired to a 6-speed iMT and sends power to all wheels via the automaker’s GR-Four 4WD system with an electronic multi-plate clutch and 3 selectable modes.
For improved dynamic performance, the engineering boffins at Gazoo Racing lowered differential gears and for the first, second, and third gear ratios are much closer than the standard GR Corolla. The front MacPherson strut suspension is fitted with inverted monotube shock absorbers whereas the double wishbone with monotube shock absorbers. Body rigidity was further strengthened by applying an additional 3.3 meters of structural adhesive and adding body reinforcement braces. When it comes to exterior dimensions the Morizo Edition sits 5mm lower than the RZ. Compared to the latter, weight has been reduced by 30 kg to 1,440 kg.
