It is well documented that South Africans love pimping up their cars or adding aftermarket accessories on their vehicles. Some are over the top and some take personalization to the next level. It’s only normal that most brands that bring cars which already at that level sell like hot cakes. Jaguar, which is generally known to be conservative, have added their names in the hat.
Menacing looks
We spent time with the Jaguar F-Pace SVR that has been touched by SVO (Special Vehicle Operations). The department has added a bespoke range of specialized colours and one of them being Gloss Avocado as seen on our test unit. The SUV is still a head turner and the bespoke avocado colour makes the SVR distinct.
Posh cabin
Besides the exterior colour addition the F-Pace SVR maintains a luxurious cabin that features a 11.4-inch HD curved display Pivi Pro infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the Meridian Surround sound system and bucket seats with “SVR” embossed on each seat. The interior continues to be elegant and sleek with the highlight being the electric bucket seats, a constant reminder of where you are. The seats are comfortable during long drives and are supportive when you put your foot down around corners. The infotainment is easy to use and all passengers, including the ones at the back, benefit from a spacious cabin.
Drive and Performance
The fire breathing Jaguar F-Pace SVR SVO retains the 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine developing 405 kW and 700 Nm. Power is sent to all four paws via an 8-speed transmission and the Dynamic Launch function helps propel the big cat from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.0 seconds until it reaches a top speed of 286 km/h. The F-Pace SVR behaves well on the daily commute to the office, and when in comfort mode it feels even softer. The ride quality is good for a Sports SUV and the glorious sound of the V8 is infectious. Unfortunately, fuel efficiency is not one the V8’s strong suits as our time with the SUV yielded a heavy return of 16l/100km.
Final Word
Overall, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR is a worthy contender for the performance SUV title and the colour additions takes personalization to another level.
