Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the G 580 with EQ Technology, marking the brand’s first fully electric variant of the iconic premium off-roader, the G-Class. Combining legendary design language with innovative drive technology, the electric G-Class maintains its angular silhouette and iconic elements while integrating modern electric power.
Retaining the model’s character, the G 580 features a body built on a ladder frame, modified and reinforced to accommodate the electric drive that produces 423 kW. The integration of a high-voltage 116-kWh lithium-ion battery into the frame ensures a low center of gravity, providing ample energy for ranges of up to a claimed 473 kilometers according to WLTP standards.

The electric G-Class is powered by four individually controlled electric motors, delivering a maximum total output of 432 kW. These motors, along with selectable Low Range off-road gear reduction, enable unique driving characteristics and exclusive functions such as G-Turn and G-Steering, enhancing maneuverability on various terrains.

Maintaining off-road standards, the G 580 exhibits a gradeability of up to 100% on suitable surfaces and remains stable on sideways slopes of up to 35 degrees. With a maximum fording depth of 850 millimeters, it surpasses its conventionally powered counterparts. Intelligent torque vectoring virtually simulates conventional differential locks, enhancing traction and control.
Externally, the all-new electric G-Class features an optional black-panel radiator grille, slightly raised bonnet, air curtains in the rear wheel-arch flares, and a design box on the rear, contributing to an optimized aerodynamic profile.
