Ford South Africa has expanded its acclaimed Transit Custom range with the introduction of the sporty new Transit Custom Sport Short Wheelbase Van.

According to Bogosi Matsheka, Brand Manager for Transit and Tourneo at Ford South Africa, the Transit Custom Sport was created for customers who want more than just a typical work van. “This version is perfect for sole traders, owner-operators, and adventurous individuals seeking a spacious yet practical vehicle that caters to both professional and lifestyle needs,” Matsheka explains.

    Sporty design upgrades

The Transit Custom Sport comes exclusively in a short-wheelbase configuration and features striking exterior enhancements. A sports body kit, honeycomb sports grille, rear spoiler, and bold 17-inch matte black alloy wheels set it apart from the more commercial-focused Base model. The Sport model also flaunts dual racing stripes that run from the front bumper, over the bonnet, roof, and rear doors, along with side decals that emphasize its unique design. It also features LED headlights, Ford’s advanced daytime running lights, and automatic high-beam control.

    Interior features

Inside, you’ll find blue-accented sports trim on the seats, piano black accents around the display, and dual-zone climate control. The driver’s seat features 10-way power adjustment with lumbar support, and the cabin includes dual USB-C charging ports. It also comes with a 13-inch touchscreen featuring Ford’s SYNC®4 infotainment system, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In front of the driver sits a 12-inch instrument cluster with an 8-inch configurable display.

    Cargo space and practicality

Ford says despite its compact short wheelbase (5,050 mm in length), the Transit Custom Sport is designed for optimal space efficiency. It offers a load compartment length of 2,602 mm, providing up to 5.8 cubic meters of cargo space—enough to fit three Euro pallets and carry a payload of up to 1,023 kg. For easier access, the van features twin 180-degree rear barn doors and soft-close dual sliding side doors with integrated steps. The van’s practicality extends to load-securing features, with six tie-down loops and a full load area protection kit, including a molded floor and bright LED interior lighting for improved visibility.

    Powertrain and performance

Under the hood, the Transit Custom Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre Single Turbo EcoBlue diesel engine, producing 125 kW and 390 Nm of torque. Shifting needs are handled by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can select from five drive modes: Normal, Eco, Slippery, Tow/Haul, and Sport mode.

    Advanced safety and driver assistance

The Transit Custom Sport comes with Ford’s latest safety features, including ABS brakes, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill Launch Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. Additional features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keeping, rear parking sensors, and a 180-degree split-view rear camera. In terms of security, the van includes Keyless Entry and Start, deadlocks, and the FordPass Connect modem, which allows remote access via the FordPass app.
