In a market flooded with compact SUVs, the 2024 Honda Elevate makes a strong impression, combining practicality and style in a package that’s hard to overlook. We were also pleasantly impressed by the Elevate’s spaciousness and versatility – for its segment.

Equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.5L i-VTEC engine delivering 89kW and 145Nm of torque, the Elevate prioritizes smoothness over thrills. Mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the driving experience is smooth, but could perhaps be more responsive – even though this is only noticeable during brisk acceleration. During our time with the Elevate, we achieved a commendable fuel efficiency of around 6.5L/100km, making it a practical choice for both city commutes and weekend getaways. The Elevate feels agile, effortlessly handling urban traffic while still offering enough power for highway cruising – for as long as you’re not trying to overtake trucks.

When it comes to handling, the Elevate excels. The suspension is tuned for comfort, absorbing bumps and imperfections with ease, while still providing a sense of control during cornering. The steering is light and precise, enhancing maneuverability in tight spaces—perfect for navigating crowded streets, unruly parents during school runs, or parking lots.

Inside, the Elevate surprises, as mentioned above, with its spacious and thoughtfully designed cabin. High-quality materials, by segment standards, an intuitive layout create an inviting atmosphere. The infotainment system is user-friendly, featuring a crisp touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Additionally, the inclusion of a wireless charging pad adds a touch of modern convenience.

The Honda Elevate offers excellent value for its starting price of R371,000, complete with a 5-year/90,000km service plan and a 5-year/200,000km warranty. As the compact SUV segment continues to grow, the Elevate is poised to remind the competition of its appeal to a wide range of potential buyers seeking both style and substance.
