Lexus has revealed the all-new, eighth-generation ES sedan at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, showcasing a significant leap forward in luxury, design, and electrified performance.

First introduced around 30 years ago, the Lexus ES has long been recognised for its premium comfort and refined craftsmanship. The latest generation builds on that legacy, introducing modern design elements, enhanced performance capabilities, and a focus on electrification.

Inspired by the Lexus LF-ZC concept, the new ES features a sleek silhouette designed for aerodynamic efficiency. It includes signature design updates such as the Twin L-Signature headlamps and tail lamps, and an evolved Spindle Body front fascia.

    Enhanced platform and powertrains

Built on an updated TNGA GA-K platform, the new ES accommodates both hybrid electric (HEV) and battery electric (BEV) powertrains. This architecture supports a lower centre of gravity and improved ride quality.

The ES 300h features a 2.0-litre hybrid system, while the ES 350h introduces a 2.5-litre hybrid engine with all-wheel drive options. For full electric mobility, the ES 350e and ES 500e offer front- and all-wheel drive respectively, with the latter including Lexus’ DIRECT4 torque distribution system.

    Interior comfort

The cabin of the new ES has been designed for both luxury and practicality. Interior space is expanded, offering greater legroom and visibility through wide glass panels and a higher seating position.

    Notable features include:

    Electronically dimmable panoramic roof

Low-E glass for UV and heat protection

    Ambient lighting tuned for comfort

Reclining rear seats with ottoman functions

Sensory Concierge system to manage lighting, temperature, sound, and scent

Interior materials include sustainable elements like bamboo-based trims and synthetic leather embossing, aligned with Lexus’ sustainability goals and Japanese design heritage.

    Improved ride and safety

To deliver a smooth and stable driving experience, Lexus has refined the suspension system and structural rigidity of the ES. A new multi-link rear suspension and Dynamic Rear Steering improve both agility and high-speed stability.

The interior is also designed for quietness, with enhanced sound insulation for a calm and refined driving environment.

On the safety front, the new ES is equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System +, which includes improved object detection, broader sensor coverage, and upgraded driver alerts.

    Availability

Lexus South Africa will announce detailed specifications, available technologies, and model variants closer to the vehicle’s official local launch.
