Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has officially launched the all-new Tata Tiago in South Africa – a sporty, stylish and affordable hatchback that’s ready to shake up the local market. Backed by a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating, premium features and wallet-friendly pricing, the Tiago is designed for young professionals and first-time buyers who want more value without compromise.

    Exterior

The Tata Tiago’s design is modern, sporty and youthful, ticking all the right boxes for South Africans looking for an affordable hatch that doesn’t feel budget. Standout exterior features include sleek LED headlamps with smart DRLs, chrome-accented fog lamps, a trendy dual-tone roof and a shark-fin antenna. At the rear, boomerang-shaped LED taillamps add flair, while higher-spec XZ models ride on 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that give the Tiago a bold, confident stance.

    Interior

Step inside and the Tiago’s cabin immediately feels premium for its price point. Tata has fitted the hatch with a dual-tone dashboard, an advanced digital instrument cluster and a first-in-class illuminated steering wheel. Plush melange fabric seats add comfort and sophistication, while higher trims introduce a segment-leading 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Everyday convenience comes standard too, with automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and USB Type A & C charging ports to keep you and your passengers connected. With 242 litres of boot space, the Tiago balances compact city-friendly proportions with the practicality needed for groceries, luggage or weekend trips.

    Safety

One of the Tiago’s strongest selling points is safety. Previously awarded a 4-star Global NCAP crash rating, it’s one of the safest hatchbacks in its segment. Standard safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), hill-hold control and a reinforced high-strength body shell. Higher trims add a reverse parking camera for added peace of mind.

With safety built into its DNA, the Tiago is an ideal choice for first-time car buyers, young drivers and families who don’t want to compromise on protection.

    Powertrain

Under the bonnet, the Tiago is powered by Tata’s proven 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine delivering 63 kW at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 3,300 rpm. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) for effortless city driving.

Fuel efficiency is a major highlight, with Tata claiming just 5.0 litres/100 km, making the Tiago both fun and frugal. The suspension setup – McPherson struts at the front and a twist-beam rear axle – ensures comfort and stability across South Africa’s varied road conditions.

    Pricing and warranty

Tata has priced the Tiago competitively, giving South Africans maximum value for money in the budget hatchback segment:

    1. Tata Tiago 1.2 XM MT – R184,900
    2. Tata Tiago 1.2 XT MT – R209,900
    3. Tata Tiago 1.2 XT AMT – R224,900

Pricing includes a 2-year/30,000 km service plan and a 5-year/125,000 km warranty, ensuring hassle-free ownership and long-term peace of mind.

The range-topping XZ model, with added premium features like cruise control, push-button start, wireless smartphone connectivity and 15-inch alloys, will be introduced shortly after launch.
