We recently joined MG for the launch of their new ZS Pro, the latest compact SUV from MG Motor South Africa. Positioned above the entry level ZS, the ZS Pro brings more space, more tech and updated styling to MG’s growing local line up.

In terms of looks, the ZS Pro keeps things simple and clean. It is not a head turner, but the design is neat and modern enough to appeal to a wide audience. The ZS Pro is slightly longer, wider and taller than the standard ZS, giving it a bit more presence on the road. The Comfort model rides on 17-inch alloys, while the Luxury trim steps up to 18-inch wheels for a more refined look.

Inside, the ZS Pro offers a well laid out and well specced cabin. The Comfort features a 10.25 inch touchscreen and a 7 inch instrument cluster, while the Luxury model upgrades to a larger 12.3 inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof and heated seats. Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the overall user experience is straightforward and familiar. Boot space is a practical 443 litres, expanding to 1 457 litres with the rear seats folded.

Under the bonnet sits a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine producing 125 kW and 275 Nm. Power goes to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox that simulates stepped gear shifts. On paper and in practice, it is a setup aimed at smooth, relaxed everyday driving.

The driving experience in the ZS Pro Luxury was pleasantly uncomplicated. The 1.5 litre turbo motor delivers enough punch for daily use and the CVT drone is well controlled unless you push it hard. Ride comfort is another strong point, making the ZS Pro easy to live with in urban settings.

    Pricing

    • ZS Pro 1.5T Comfort – R397,600

    • ZS Pro 1.5T Luxury – R431,500
