    The limited-edition Range Rover Sport SV II recently joined us on test, and it is clear from the first glance that this is not just another performance SUV. In this specification, it feels more like a statement than a car.

    Our test unit came finished in Blue Nebula Matte, one of four available colours, paired with the Satin Forged Carbon exterior pack. That means a painted carbon-fibre bonnet, 23-inch forged black alloy wheels, and Blue Nebula brake calipers tying the whole look together. In this specification, it looks good from every single angle. The kind of SUV that has you checking reflections in shop windows just to admire it again.

    Interior

    Step inside and the drama continues, just in a more refined tone. Performance seats upholstered in Light Cloud and Ebony Windsor leather dominate the cabin, complete with forged carbon fibre seat backs. They are heated, ventilated, offer massage functionality, and even feature embedded speakers for a 4D sound experience. Yes, the seats literally talk to you. It feels slightly excessive, but in the best possible way.

    The rest of the cabin balances sportiness and luxury well. A panoramic sunroof adds light, while the Pivi Pro infotainment system is displayed on a 13.1-inch touchscreen. The layout is clean and modern, and the overall finish feels worthy of the price tag.

    Performance and drive

    Under the bonnet sits a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 sourced from BMW, producing 467kW and 750Nm. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a performance-tuned eight-speed ZF automatic.

    The numbers are serious. 0–100km/h takes just 3.7 seconds, and top speed is rated at 290km/h. In a luxury SUV. Let that sink in.

    On the road, it cruises effortlessly when you want it to. Engage the SV button on the steering wheel, though, and things change quickly. The exhaust note deepens, throttle response sharpens, and suddenly this near-2,500kg SUV feels far lighter than physics suggests it should. It is impressively agile for its size, with composure that inspires confidence even when you start exploring its limits.

    Verdict

    Limited to just 23 units for South Africa and priced from R3,971,500, the Range Rover Sport SV II sits firmly in rarefied territory.

    It is unapologetically expensive, unapologetically powerful, and slightly outrageous. But it also manages to blend comfort, cutting-edge tech, and serious performance into one very polished package.

    If you want a family SUV that can outpace sports cars while massaging your back and serenading you through the seat speakers, the SV II does exactly that.
